The SOMALI ANIMAL ADVOCACY AND RIGHTS ORGANIZATION (SAARO)

The Somali Animal Advocacy and Rights Organization (SAARO) is a non-profit organization founded in 2017 in Baidoa, Southwest State of Somalia. It was established by Somali professionals, veterinarians, and environmentalists who share a common vision — to improve animal welfare, promote ethical livestock management, and encourage sustainable agricultural development across Somalia.

For decades, animals have played a vital role in Somali life, providing livelihoods, food, and cultural identity. However, challenges such as droughts, limited veterinary services, and low awareness of animal welfare have created suffering and reduced productivity. SAARO was created to address these challenges by linking animal protection with sustainable agriculture, ensuring both human and environmental wellbeing.
